What do I need to open an EBSBdirect account?

Information about you and the joint owner if there is one is:
Social security number, Driver’s license number, home address, the account number, routing number and name of financial institution that you will be using to transfer funds to make your initial deposit.

Why do you ask for all this information?

Federal law requires financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person or entity that opens an account. We will use citizenship, social security number, mother’s maiden name, driver’s license and other information to validate your identity. Keeping your information secure is one of our most important responsibilities. Please read our Privacy Policy for an explanation on how we manage customer information.
Email - We will use your email address to send you important information about your application, including confirmation that we have received your application and next steps required to open the account. EBSB will never ask you to send sensitive information (acct number, social security number or PIN number) in response to, or via a link in an email.

Are my funds insured?

Your account is insured in full through FDIC and DIF insurance.

How do I know my funds in my account are secure?

EBSBdirect provides Secure Sign On service which protects you from fraudulent online activity. If you sign on from an unrecognized device you will need to go through a step up authentication. Step up authentication helps us ensure that only authorized individuals can access financial information online.

What if I forget my username and password?

You need to contact the bank if you do not remember your Username. You can reset the password yourself by clicking on the "forgot my password" link and getting a one-time security code or answering verification questions.

Do I have to close my accounts at other banks?

No, we do not require you to close your accounts at other banks. Feel free to keep an account active at a nearby financial institution and you’ll be able to transfer funds between the two banks.

How is interest calculated?

Interest accrues daily and is compounded monthly.

Will you be accessing my credit report?

No. We will be taking steps to verify the information submitted on your application, but we will not access your credit report.

What are test deposits? How do I verify them?

Test deposits are set up to confirm the link between your EBSBdirect account and your local financial institution. We will send two test deposits to your existing account. After you see these small amounts on your statement, you will return to our website and confirm the amounts. After you confirm the correct amounts, we will transfer your opening deposit.

What happens if I do not verify the two small dollar test deposits to my funding account?

The small dollar test amounts help us verify that we have the correct information on your existing account. We are not able to complete the account opening process until this information is verified.

How do I view my EBSBdirect account information?

You may view your EBSBdirect account information by entering your online banking username on the top right of the screen; click “LOG IN” to view your recent transactions, statements, to make additional transfers, or to send us a secure message.

How often will I receive a statement?

Not all accounts will receive a statement. Monthly statements will be sent to the primary address on your application. Or, if there is no activity on the account a quarterly statement will be issued. You may also receive online statements through our online banking service.

How do I set up Direct Deposits to my EBSBdirect account?

Provide your account number and our routing number, #211070120, to your employer.

Can I transfer money between my EBSBdirect account and another bank?

Yes. Once you establish your online account and online banking service at EBSB, you can set-up transfers from other institutions using your EBSB online banking account.

How many and what type of accounts can I link?

You may link your EBSBdirect account with any and as many accounts that you own at a financial institution in the United States. You cannot link to a credit card account or some types of brokerage or investment accounts.

How many times can I withdraw from my account?

Due to federal regulations, you are allowed six preauthorized and/or automatic transfers per calendar month for a money market account and savings account. There are no limits on the number of deposits you can make. Examples of preauthorized and automatic transfers include transfers from your savings to another account and ACH payments such as a gym membership or insurance payment.

What happens if I withdraw too many times?

If your account limits the number of transactions you can make in a statement cycle and you exceed the allotted number, you will receive notification of the violation and may also receive a fee. If you are in violation more than twice in a 12-month period, we may be required to close your account.
